Hair Restoration
There are many different types of hair restoration available today, and depending on the nature and source of the hair loss picking the right type can be confusing. There are over 85 million women and men who are suffering from the most common type of hair loss which is hereditary hair loss caused by a genetic condition.
Types of Hair Restoration
Because genetics play a significant role in hair loss, there is no one hair restoration system that offers a entirely satisfactory solution for everyone. The following are some of the most common hair loss treatments available today.
Strip Excision Hair Transplant Surgery is one of the most common type of hair restoration surgery used today. This method surgically removes about a 1cm wide strip of tissue from the scalp. The strip is then cut into follicle hair grafts. The hair grafts are implanted into the balding area. This type of surgery works well with large balding spots.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) uses a 1mm punch to obtain hair follicles from the scalp, and then implanting the hair follicles into the balding or thinning spot. FUT can be a tedious procedure and is best for people that are only looking to fill a small thinning or balding areas.
Scalp Reduction is a hair restoration procedure that has become extremely popular for reducing the size of the bald spot. Scalp reduction surgically removes skin from the bald area, most of the time it will be from the very top of the scalp. Then the remaining skin with hair is pulled together from the sides towards the center, which now will replace the section of skin that had had no hair and was removed.
Scalp Expansion surgery uses a tissue expander which is a balloon-type device, it is implanted under the skin of the scalp and is slowly inflated which expands the scalp skin, this is done over a 4 to 12 week time frame, this creates excesses scalp skin. This excesses tissue is then used to reduce the bald spot. This works best for people with thick hair on the sides and back of the scalp that have a large bald area on the top of the head.
Hair restoration can also be achieved using topical hair treatments, hair loss shampoos, medication and different drugs.
If topical hair loss applications or hair loss shampoo treatments are used for hair restoration, it is essential that you follow the instructions to insure continued hair re-growth. With most of these type products if you discontinue using them the new hair may begin to fall out and re-growth will stop.
Hair restoration has helped many people to regain the look they want. Each individual should take into consideration when looking at hair replacement, that not all of the options will work for them, hair restoration by surgery may not be for them. Careful consideration and cost between the different types of hair replacement options, should be examined in the decision as to what will work best for you.
